A yearly, consistent need we face here at AES is finding support to pay our teacher salaries each year. To employ one teacher it takes about $ 5,000 each year. This is low compared to salaries teachers are paid in Amman. Therefore, in order to retain our teachers [who have experience here at our school and with our students] we constantly feel pressure to raise our salaries. If we raise our salaries by $50/month one year, the next year we have to match that, or increase. The problems arise when past supporters choose to stop supporting these teachers, therefore causing us to scramble to find new supporters so we're able to pay our hard-working teachers. Therefore we have thought of a solution: we would like to encourage supporters and donors to commit to paying X number of teacher's salaries for X number of years. For example, a donor would commit to paying two teachers salaries for 5 years. They would make that commitment, and then the year before their commitment period is over we would contact them, asking if they would like to recommit to another X number of years. That way we have a consistent donor base, but it also allows them to reevaluate their desire and their financial situation, to decide if they would like to continue donating.
